Check out my latest upcoming events!
I started helping my father with his DJ business when I was 12-years-old. One of my responsibilities was helping unload the equipment and setting it up. This was quite the job for a skinny middle school kid, but I knew the hard work would be worth it. I knew that after all the heavy lifting was over I would get to run the soundboard.
Over the years, I learned more of the skills involved to become a DJ. I gradually learned how to run the lights, how to transition songs into each other, what the general flow of a night should look and sound like and, of course, what the best music was to get people out on the dance floor. I gathered more than just DJ skills. I also learned how to work with people, how to interact with the crowd and how to get people to participate in the night’s entertainment. By the age of sixteen I was working events on my own.
For many years I worked for my dad on the evenings he had more than one event scheduled. I became very familiar with the roads of southwest Minnesota and there were many late nights. After playing music until at least midnight, often times later, I would have to take down the equipment, load it all up in our old van (that often broke down) and drive, who knows how far, home. I loved it and it has never felt like work to me, just an awesome job that I get to do.
As the years have gone by and I have moved farther away from my father (and his equipment) I haven’t been able to DJ as much as I would like. On the nights that I did work for him even more driving was involved since I had to drive from my home in Brandon, SD to Tracy, MN and then to where ever the event was. This could be a half hour away or an hour and a half away! I have always wanted to buy a system of my own so I could arrange my own bookings. This winter I finally bought a system and Prime Soundwaves was born.
